I haven't
owned it very long (purchased used at less than half the price
of a new one), but so far it has been a good truck. Its off-road
performance has been the best of anything I've owned before (also
the best set up off-road vehicle I have owned). Others were the
Suzuki Samurai, Ford Explorer, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC Suburban.
Not that these can't excel in many ways with the right aftermarket
items, but the Rover has been a great mix of style, comfort and
ruggedness.
Will it beat
anything out there off-road? Of course not, but of course
it depends on where you plan on taking it and how much you want
to modify it! But what you will gain in one area, you will
loose in another, so one must make his or her best choices and
learn to live with them. This is a good all around vehicle
I can live with.
According
to some estimates, over 80% of all Land Rovers ever built (since
1947) are still on the road today! It remains the first automobile
seen by more human beings than any other, 60% in developing nations
and 20% world wide.
I'm not alone
in enjoying this vehicle, TopGear
counted the votes and the Land Rover was a clear winner as "The
Greatest Car of All Time" with 29% of the vote.
